Training in Intellectual Property
Amman - 15 & 16 January 2014
An-Najah National University "ANNU", coordinator of Tempus Project Strengthening Universities – Enterprise linkages In Palestine “STEP” , which is funded by the European Union, organized a training workshop entitled " Management of Intellectual Property " on Wednesday and Thursday 15-16 January 2014 in Jordan- Amman , in order to come up with practical recommendations for strengthening the intellectual property relationship between the universities on the one hand , institutions and companies from the local market on the other.
Several representatives from Palestinian partner’s universities, Nablus Chamber of Commerce, representative from universities in Italy and Spain participated in this training workshop, including Palestinian National Tempus Office Representative, Dr. Nedal Jayousi.

The workshop was opened with a welcome speech by project coordinator -Dr. Imad ibrik, who spoke about the project “STEP” which is a project that aims to achieve a mutual benefit between universities and the private sector and establishing a partnership and a strong network of cooperation between them and to promote scientific research. He spoke briefly about the first year achievement and the next steps and activities necessary to do in this project, also he highlighted that the focus of this project is to sustainably strengthen the relationship with enterprises.
Dr. Nedal Al-Jayousi delivered a presentation about the Tempus project, transition from Tempus to Erasmus +, emphasizing the importance of this project in higher education institutions in Palestine. He stated how the Tempus projects can lend specific financial support to meet particular institutional demands. He mentioned how Tempus can assist in financing specific projects and specific ideas in the field of higher education, academic research and other topics.

In the first day, Dr. Alessandra Baccigotti and Dr. Andrea Ravaioli from Unibo university-Italy delivered presentations about the exploitation and licensing of IP rights, intellectual property rights, exploitation & licensing “ingredients” and negotiating a license agreement with universities.

In the second day, the university of Alicante -Spain , delivered a training about introduction to intellectual property (IP) , overview of IP rights relevant to university-industry collaborations, patents & utility models, trade secrets, trade marks, designs, copyright , IP policies and protocols at the university level, and IP management - practicum.

At the end of the meeting, the consortium agreed on the next activities and date of the next study visit to Germany in first week of April-2014.
